Workshop

Retail products using recycled materials

In January 2010 we secured a grant from SCRL (Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd) to develop the use of recycled materials and design products that may be suitable for retail.  We were able to invite two international artists to help us work with recycled materials to design and make handbags and to work with recycled glass. Working with Nuria Gambau on handbags and Jude Stoll on glass was  very inspiring for all concerned and left us with a lot of interesting and exciting ideas.

Inspired by these Master Classes we are continuing to experiment with a range of recycled materials, when designing and making retail products.

Using a variety of inner tubes from discarded vehicle tyres, and old seat belts, we have been designing and making a range of exciting bags for sale.

We have also experimented with the technique of paper mache, and refined our skills, to produce a range of vases and bowls.

Jodie developed with us a range of jewellery using old broken zips.

We also work with recycled window glass and crushed bottles.

The results of our work were amongst items for sale at our Christmas Sale

We have also worked on commissions using recycled materials, for example bags for Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
