Workshop
Workshops offered by other people or organisations within our studios
Our studio can be hired by organisations or individuals who need a suitable place to run workshops within the area. One exciting workshop was organised and run by Annie Powell, who used to be a member of The Project Group. After leaving the group she contacted us to hire the space to run her own rug making workshop.
Annie Powell describes her experience.
"I joined the Project Group last June as a 'service user'. At that time my state of mind was pretty desperate. I was lucky enough to be referred by my mental health worker from Oswestry Community Mental Health Team, to The Project Group. The first time I walked through the doors I was rigid with fear. The Group immediately made me feel welcome and more than that – valued. I was set up with a felt making project which I was guided through (without being pressured). This gave me a focal point as I was incredibly nervous and the endless moving around had left me very isolated and I found social contact incredibly hard. But with the focus on the work I was doing, I found myself starting to make conversation with others around me, whilst having a great sense of achievement through my art-work. Creativity is surely one of the best ways of healing all sorts of wounds.
I am going to be running a workshop myself, showing people how to make rugs on a peg loom using sheep fleece. This will all help to ease me back into employment and although I am nervous about the workshop, I know I will be supported and will feel a huge confidence boost when I have done it."
